How to Receive Forgiveness From God
Ephesians 4:31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
No matter how far gone you think you are or what you have done, if you are breathing right now, it is not too late to seek forgiveness from God. Forgiveness is the act of not holding something against someone for what they have done. It shows mercy, love, and grace and cancels the “wrong” debt even if the person does not deserve it. If we already acknowledged that we have a sin nature and all of us have sinned, then we also need to acknowledge that we need forgiveness from God. He is ready to wipe our slate clean and not hold our sins against us. All we have to do is ask.
The idea of repentance often makes us shrink but it is actually a beautiful thing. It is the opportunity to change your mind about your notions, ways of thinking, and ways of living and turning back to God. Ultimately, we belong to Him.
Through His sacrifice, we are blameless under His eyes. He already paid the penalty for us so that we wouldn’t have to. Once you are released from that guilt you will feel so free. God will meet you right where you are today, but He will take you further if you let Him. You will start to experience change when you follow His pathway that was specifically designed for you. Yes, He already has a plan for your life, He was just waiting for you to step in it. This does not mean we do not make mistakes along the way but if we seek Him, He will always be right there. So, if you are ready to turn your life around and be a new creation through Christ, it’s as easy as praying A.B.C.
A- Admit that you do not have it all together. Admit to God that you have sinned, but you want to turn around and choose Him.
Romans 3:23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard
"Dear Heavenly Father, I admit that I need you in my life. Please forgive me for my sins. I want to choose your love and will for my life...
B- Believe that Jesus is the Son of God and died for your sins so that you can have eternal life. Believe that through Christ you are made right with God and you are forgiven.
Romans 3:24 Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty of our sins.
...I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins in order for me to have eternal life and to be reconciled with you...
C- Confess that your faith is in Jesus Christ alone as your Savior and Lord of your life.
Romans 10:9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.
...I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Thank you for coming down from Heaven because I would not be able to do this thing called life on my own. In Jesus's name, Amen"
Do you know that God is rejoicing over you right now? Welcome to His family, Heaven is glad to have you. Congratulations!
The buck doesn’t stop here. You have to be intentional with your relationship with God every day, not just on Sundays. That means reading His word every day, praying, fellowshipping with other Christians, and spreading the Good News and His love to others. Seek Him first and everything else will be added to you.
John 14:6 Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”
