How to Get Through Hard Seasons

Ecclesiastes 3:1

For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.

If you read Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 you might notice a series of extremes happening here. There is a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to harvest, a time to kill and a time to heal, and the list goes on. It may seem odd at first, but it is actually quite normal in life to go from one extreme to another.

There will also be some highs and some lows on this rollercoaster we call life. If that is the case, then where can we fragile human beings find some stability during torrent times?

God is immutable which means He does not change (Malachi 3:6 “I am the Lord, and I do not change). This is why it is important to have your heart grounded in Him and His unchanging nature. When life’s currents threaten to overtake you, you will stand firm because you know where your strength comes from.

Demain Si Dieu Veut

Demain Si Dieu Veut is a Haitian saying that literally means “Tomorrow if God Wants” or better translated as “Tomorrow, God Willing.” Instead of being certain of our plans for tomorrow, we submit them under God’s will. It is an act of surrender.

Sometimes we have a hard time adjusting to the waves of life because we do not want to let control go from our grip and submit to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

There are so many extremes that can happen in life: One day you may be comfortable in your home, the next day you are homeless. One day you are healthy, the next day you are sick. One day your loved one is here, the next day they are gone. We’ve seen celebrities have it all one day and the next thing you know, it all crashes and burns.

We are not designed and capable to do this thing called life on our own. This is why we need God in our lives to be our rock and solid foundation. I don’t care how strong and independent society wants you to be, you cannot do it all on your own. We cannot make it on our own without deteriorating because we are finite and limited.

God created us to be in a close relationship with Him and to depend on Him for our every need. So, no matter what temporary season you are in (seasons are just that, temporary) remember that the Lord is the same yesterday, today, and forever. There is a purpose behind every season that you are in.
