Intrusive Thoughts Series: Self-Harm and Harming Others
Psalms 147:3-4 He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds. He counts the stars and calls them all by name.
Psalms 34:17-18 The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.
When we feel the urge (temptation) to cause harm to ourselves or others it is usually because we are the victim of hurt. Think about the thoughts that led up to this mood.
The hurt and the pain we feel temporarily can lead to some permanent consequences. It is not worth it in the end. Your life and the lives of others are worth more than temporary feelings. God calls you by name and can heal your broken heart if you let Him.
Let's Pray
Dear Heavenly Father,
Right now, I feel the urge or temptation to do things that I know are of you. Please dwell in my heart and help me to resist these urges. I know that feelings are temporary and should not determine harmful outcomes.
I know that you are concerned about me, care about me, and hear my heart cry when I call out to you. Today I am calling out for your peace and comfort. Please mend this pain and heal the brokenness of my heart.
In Jesus name, Amen
